This is the story of the Goddess Durga and the mighty daanav (demon) Mahishasur. Told by Valentina Trivedi, it is a story in 9 parts, encompassing the birth of Mahisha, the appearance of the Devi and the fierce battle between the two which ends in the Devi slaying Mahisha. The story is from the Devi Bhaagvatam, a Sanskrit text that belongs to the Purana-genre of Hindu literature. It celebrates the divine feminine as the primordial creator of all existence.
